Countdown to Christmas Day 13: Carolers

It's the 2nd to last day of the Countdown to Christmas project.  The time has sure passed quickly!  Today we made Christmas carolers that resemble ourselves (matching eye & hair color).  Each student chose the song they wanted to attach to the craft.

Day 12 of Countdown to Christmas: EXTRA RECESS!

If you ask a child what his favorite part of school is, you will probably hear "recess" and that is exactly what we surprised the students with today.

Countdown to Christmas Day 11: Encouraging Words

Today each K-2 student received an encouraging note from their teacher about how much they are loved here at MVCA.  As if that wasn't "sweet enough" we also attached a candy cane.  :)   Parents... thank you for sharing trusting us with your children.  They are very special to us!

Day 9 & 10 of Countdown to Christmas

Day 9 consisted of stringing popcorn.  Another activity that made the classrooms smell good!  The teachers repeated to themselves many times during the clean up that the activity was for the students!  I probably won't seek a job at the movie theater anytime soon.  :)

Day 10 was a visit from the Cokeman!  Freddy let us climb in the empty bays, sit in the driver's seat, and then gave us a can of A&W Rootbeer.  Yummy!

Countdown to Christmas Day 8: Cinnamon Ornaments

The classrooms sure smelled nice with this activity!  Using a mixture of cinnamon and applesauce, we created a dough.  Students rolled it out and used cookie cutters to make a shape.  Once the ornaments were dry, they were strung with ribbon to make a Christmas ornament.  With careful packing the ornaments will last for years... but they are VERY brittle.  Haha

Countdown to Christmas Day 5: Card Making

Shirley Dangler brought in some of her scrapbooking tools so we could make Christmas cards.  She showed us how to layer paper to make a cute border, use glitter for snow, and crinkle or emboss paper to add texture.  What a FUN day!  Thanks Shirley & Will (helper)!

Reading Buddies from Calvary

Third and fourth graders are reading to students from Calvary Preschool.  Students from the preschool come to MVCA once/week to have our students read books to them and engage in other activities.  We love having them visit each week!

Countdown to Christmas Day 2: Popcorn Snack & a Joke

Q.  What did the cow get for Christmas?
A.  A COWculator!

Q. What do snowmen do on Christmas?
A.  Play with the snow angels!

Q.  What do you call a snowman in the summer?
A.  A Puddle!

Today we enjoyed eating a special treat while sharing a little seasonal humor.  The kindergarteners didn't waste any time with their snacks as they started enjoying the treat before Mrs. Frederick had all her students in the room.  Haha!

Countdown to Christmas: Day 1

Mrs. Hofer and Mrs. Frederick are helping the student "Countdown to Christmas" by giving them some sort of a surprise every school day until Christmas break.  Today was the big kickoff with a field trip to the Master's Corral in Tyndall.  Jeff, animal keeper, loves God so much that he wants others to enjoy some of the animals God created that are not native to South Dakota.  All of his animals are given biblical names and Jeff shares stories about several of them while the students feed and pet them.  We were able to see both dromedary and bractrian camels, alpacas, some very unique looking pheasants, an emu, donkeys, peacocks, and of course, dogs and cats.  We hope you enjoy the picture tour below! A Peek into the Kindergarten Room

This student discovered how fun it can be to make a mural during free-choice centers.

Teachers should be more careful about where they set their coffee mug!

We're learning to subtract!

A couple of kindergartners updated their blog today about the field trip they took to Sacred Heart School to see Phil Baker.  Check it out to see what silly things we had to do!  www.kidblog.org/k-24

Pastor Appreciation Chapel

We had a fine crew here today for our October chapel which honored the hard working men and woman who serve as pastors for our families' churches.  Many stayed to enjoy lunch with the students, staff, parents, and grandparents.  Thank you...thank you...thank you pastors for your work leading the churches that mean a great deal to the 31 students at MVCA.

Out on the Farm

The kindergarten class went to the Nelson farm after learning about the fall harvest.  It was exciting for us.  We got to climb up into a combine which is a new experience for most of us.  Dave even let us honk the horn... again and again and again AND AGAIN!  We chased the cows away with our giggles and squeals then watched them come back when we were quiet and calm.  We saw different kinds of chickens, a small dog, cows, and even a MOUSE!  We saw how grain is stored and how the trucks dump the grain into a grate in the ground.  Dave says that's where he keeps his alligators, but we know better - haha!  It was a great day.  If you'd like to see more pictures, check out our kindergarten blog at www.kidblog.org/k-24 .  Thanks, Dave!
