Countdown to Christmas - Day ??

We lost count as to what number this day should be labeled. I guess we are having too much fun and lost track!! Today, we first had a pizza party at Hy-Vee and then Dan Crick brought his 4-wheeler and sled to give the kids rides around the school lot. The kids definitely gave this activity a thumbs up!!

Merry Christmas from the MVCA students and staff!! Please be safe as you venture out to your Christmas gatherings this week. It sounds like it will be a very memorable white Christmas.

First Day of Winter Scavenger Hunt

The students of MVCA headed out on the Auld-Brokaw Trail in search of items that might be found on the first day of winter. Items on their list included a rabbit, squirrel, bird, pinecone, feather, icicles, frozen water, leaves still on a tree, seed heads, and animal tracks. Only pictures available at this blogging time is from Mrs. Nelson's group.

P.E. Fun

When it is sub-zero outside it is time to get creative and have p.e. indoors. Mr. Conkling does a great job keeping the kids going even when forced to move indoors.

"Snow" Much Fun

With the snow we received last week the man who cleans our parking lot was able to create a good sized snowpile for the students to play on. Winter attire has been a staple on the playground since the beginning of December.

Day 7 - Countdown to Christmas

Terry and Jolynn Tennant rounded up some canning jars and the kids filled them with the dry ingredients for cowboy cookies. Not all the chocolate chips made their way into the jars! There was some sampling going on amongst the students.

Back to Day 5 of Countdown to Christmas

Hot off the press are the pictures from Day 5 of Countdown to Christmas. Dave Hubbs and Emily Barton came to MVCA with woodworking kits for the kids to assemble. The students made bird houses, butterfly houses, and bird feeders.

For this student progress was going well on her birdhouse and she thought she had a knowledgable woodworker as a partner. Until...

things got a little crooked, fingers got poked and hit, and her project had to be shelved overnight to be glued and clamped.

Countdown to Christmas - Day 6

Day 5 pictures are still in process, so we skip to Day 6. Today the students traveled down to The Center here in Yankton and sang all the songs from their musical for the people gathered there. It was a wonderful time and everyone was very appreciative of our time and the talents of the students.

Manger Making in Second Grade

Can't have Christmas without a manger scene! The second graders are busy cutting straw to put a realistic touch to their dioramas.

Countdown to Christmas - Day 4

I scream. You scream. We all scream for ice cream!!

Yes, our activity today for Countdown to Christmas had the kids shaking their way to homemade ice cream. Mmmmm was it good!

Countdown to Christmas - Day 3

The students were on a quest for a pot of "gold" found somewhere "cold" this afternoon. It wasn't so easy as there were 16 clues to read and solve on this scavenger hunt. Clues were located through out the building and the gold was ice cream located in the freezer.

2009 MVCA Christmas Program & Musical

What an amazing evening! The students of MVCA presented their 2009 Christmas program and musical to an audience of 100 guests which included family, friends, and supporters of MVCA. Thank you to Sue Crick for playing the piano, Pastor Jeremy Nelson for his message, Aven Tirrel for directing the musical, and the parents who supplied the goodies for the fellowship. Christ is definitely in our Christmas celebrations here at MVCA. Merry Christmas!!

Crafty Christmas This Morning

Countdown to Christmas - Day 2
Lita Stucky from the Studio Art Center here in Yankton spent part of the morning with the students of MVCA making Christmas ornaments. The students were very engrossed in their creative projects because you could here a pin drop most of the time. Very unusual for a room full of 14 kids!

Christmas Program and Musical Tomorrow ~ Finally!

The Christmas program and musical is scheduled for tomorrow (Friday, December 11th) at 7pm. A bit of a delay due to the wintery weather earlier in the week. We invite everyone to come and enjoy an evening celebrating the birth of our Savior. We are located at 305 W. 25th St. (behind Days Inn off Broadway).

A "Hoppin'" Good Time Today

Countdown to Christmas started today (one day delayed due to the snowy weather on Wednesday). Mr. Jim Rydell shared his hobby of raising and showing Dutch rabbits. Five of them made the trip to MVCA with Mr. Rydell and one docile bunny allowed fourteen different hands to pet its fur. Now that's NOT a wascally wabbit! (Click on photo to see a larger image.)
